Artist’s Bio:
Ani was told that she drowned when she was 2 years old. She’s been an optimist ever since. Her mother was wonderful! She modeled healthy body awareness and the honoring of sensuality and femininity.
Growing up in West Virginia, Ani was the middle child between two brothers. The older one excelled in art and the younger one in music. She studied dance. She loved the physical things - being outside in nature, running, climbing trees and touch. She did not want to compete with her brothers.
After being a kindergarten teacher and a mother for many years in Atlanta, GA, she took watercolor classes in ‘94 but stopped to go to school to become a massage therapist. There she was introduced to the concept of the human energy fields – of chakras, auras and frequencies of vibrations. She took three levels of Reiki and began to incorporate these into her massage practice. She then began holding the awareness of them during her sexual play. She began to feel the flow of Reiki energies, or the Divine Flow, like liquid electricity while being intimate. She studied Tantra and Sacred Sexuality. The artwork of Alex Grey inspired her to try to paint these energies.
In the year 2000 when she turned 50, she began to paint again - figurative subjects in watercolors showing the energies and Light. She completed three levels of the Priestess Process and emerged as a Shamanic High Priestess and an ordained minister.
Ani learned to make Ukrainian Pysanky eggs while being a Girl Scout leader in the ‘90’s and has continued practicing and teaching this wonderful art. She calls them Forgiveness Eggs with the motto that should one break (it is an eggshell, after all), to “Let your second thought be Forgiveness!”
In 2004 she left Atlanta and began painting landscapes in oils on Maui. She spent two years there and then two years in Hood River, OR and now her home is in Eugene, OR. Her work is shown in the New Zone Artists’ Cooperative, Emerald Art Center in Springfield, OR, Forever Art in Portland and Collage of the Gorge in White Salmon, WA.
Artist’s Statement:
Ani lives her life as if all were Sacred. Her art is intended to help the viewer see the beauty of the Divine in every moment, in every experience. She paints the beauty of nature in her landscapes with an emphasis on light contrasting the shadows. Another theme is the Sacred Mother, pregnancy paintings, honoring the miracle of the creation of life. Her figurative and erotic art is an attempt to convey what she “feels” – those sweet Light energies that swirl all around one’s body and the possibility of opening to the Divine during intimate times. She believes we can raise our vibration toward Love and Peace if we become conscious of choosing the higher thoughts, intentions and actions - letting go of shame and moving away from violence.
