Artist’s Statement:
Most of my life, I lived in an urban environment. I was born in Atlanta Georgia, and grew up in the Los Angeles area. For 40 + years I was surrounded by concrete and for the most part, deprived of the beauty of the natural world. When I moved to Eugene, in 1993, I drank in the visual delights of everyday life here.
These landscapes are created out of the sense of wonder I’ve found in the beauty of Oregon. Working as a full time gardener, I’m outside in Spring, Summer, Fall and Winter. The natural cycles of Nature surround and nourish my love of the Earth. While traveling through the countryside to clients and friends in many lovely rural and urban locations, I’ve been privileged to witness the spectacular beauty of the changing colors and light through the golden grasses, the lifting fog, clouds, and rain, with sun-breaks and rainbows. These sights have been deeply inspirational to me, literally demanding I paint what I have seen. Though my hand doesn’t match the beauty of the original, it is my hope to convey to the viewer, a sense of the peace and joy I’ve experienced. I feel so lucky to live in Oregon!
