About New Zone

The New Zone Gallery is a non-profit tax-exempt cooperative gallery located in Eugene, Oregon, USA. It features the work of the members of the New Zone Artists Collective. The gallery was established in 1983 to further, develop and foster interest in experimental visual arts and to encourage artists with like interests. The gallery has occupied several locations, in its history, opening at its present address at 164 W Broadway in October, 2006. The New Zone Website was created in 1998.

The gallery has earned a solid reputation for presenting experimental work of high quality by local artists. Typical seasons have featured shows by individual members and also group shows that have broad public interest and encompass divergent points of view. To encourage experimentation and creativity, New Zone exhibits are non-juried, giving members an opportunity to show work that may not find space in traditional galleries.

Membership in the New Zone is available to all interested artists whose work and aims are consistent with philosophy and goals of the gallery. While senior members have generally provided leadership and direction, decisions are by democratic vote. New members are voted in by the current membership. New Zone membership is currently limited to fifty active artists. See the membership page for further information on membership classes, dues and application.

Funding for New Zone comes from a variety of sources including dues, commission on sales, donations and grants. The City of Eugene and the Lane Regional Arts Council have awarded the gallery grants in past years.

The New Zone Gallery is a small but vigorous organization that continues to have a big impact on Eugene's art scene.
